Since the Spring Festival of 2024, Ergao has had the pleasure of getting to know Ze Yu, a friend who is visually impaired. Their initial interactions began with the experience of “blind massage”. Later, they expanded their circle to include a diverse group of artists from various fields: Zhao Meng, Li Junlong, Shen Jun, Gao Xiang, Fractal, Feng Shunxu, Wang Chao, Xuan Zhiying, and Li Runjian. Together, they embarked on a creative journey that culminated in the development of the “synthesize scene” work piece titled Hide and Seek (commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival‘s No Limits). The piece is set to make its premiere at Tai Kwun in Hong Kong on March 14-16, 2025.During the extended hours of interactions, differences and barriers have always have persistently been a part of their dynamic, much like the game of “Hide and Seek”. Roles of “hiding“ and “seeking” are constantly rotating. Although barriers cannot be completely eliminated in the short term, dialogue remains necessary. We embrace this concept as “a temporary gathering with ease”, involving various communities to celebrate the creation of a Comm/Temporary, a community that, despite its fleeting nature, leaves an indelible mark on our memories. With the artistic endeavors of Butterfly Island and Hide and Seek coupled with the spatial practices of Ergao Dance Production Group · Southern Dance Hall, EDPG will continue to explore the flow, intersection, and reflection between margins/marginalization with the inspiration of curatorial friends.
